The Edmundston Blizzard spotted the Fredericton Riverview Ford Red Wings a 2-0 first period lead but roared back to post a 4-3 victory over the Wings before 1,041 fans at the Grant-Harvey Centre Sunday afternoon.
Alexis Jacques’ power play goal with 2:05 left on the clock proved to be the winner as the Eastlink North Division-leading Blizzard handed the Wings their fourth straight loss.
Justin Hebert scored one goal and set up other Edmundston goals by Nicholas Dube and Jeremy Ste-Marie.
Landon Paul had a goal and an assist to lead the Wings offensively. Manix Sarrasin, with his eighth goal of the season, and Noah Standing, with his first of the year, added the others for the Wings.
Fredericton built a 2-0 first period lead, with Sarrasin scoring past Edmundston goaltender Nicholas Sheehan before the game was a minute old. Paul added another at 8:09. The Blizzard roared back to tie it with two in the second, outshooting the Wings 26-11 in the frame and 43-42 overall in the wide-open affair. Mavric Welk, making his fourth straight start in the Fredericton net since being acquired last week, took the loss in the Red Wings net.
Fredericton falls to 3-5-1-1 on the season, last in the Eastlink North. Edmundston leads the way with a 9-4-0-0 record.
