The Fredericton Red Wings have signed Forward Sam Campbell to the 2020-2021 season. Campbell, a native of Fredericton, NB will enter his first full season of Junior Hockey in the Maritime Hockey League. Sam has played the last three years at the highly credible school and hockey program of Rothesay Netherwood School. In 200 games with RNS, Campbell registered 50 goals and added 85 assists for 135 points in 200 games. Sam was also a key leader to RNS where he served as the team’s Captain for both the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons.
Rothesay Netherwood School Director of Hockey and Head Coach of the Boy’s U 18 team Jeff Lewis has this to say about Sam Campbell: “Sam is the epitome of a kind of student-athlete we try to attract to our program and school. He was a three-year player and captain for 2 years at RNS. Sam’s attention to detail, work ethic and skill set allowed him to be an impact player from the first time he skated with us. Sam truly bought into the process and prides himself on getting better every day. Red wing fans can expect to see a hardworking, two-way forward with an offensive upside and great understanding of the game. For anyone who appreciates watching hockey played the right way, you will love watching ‘Soupy’ for the next few years. He is a natural leader who will work as hard at his academics and physical conditioning as he will his game on the ice”.
Red Wings assistant coach Kevin Pottle is confident Campbell will add character to the Red Wings team. ‘I am fortunate to follow Sam’s hockey development and watch him grow as a quality young man. He plays the game with pace and is a player who can adapt to any situation in the game extremely well”.
Welcome home, Soupy!
