Well, September is here, if there truly is one summer that flew by, this must be it. If there is a year anyone can remember with more challenges, I hope you overcame them. Our program has worked day and night thinking, planning, and executing every chance we got to get us to this point here in time. Overcoming challenges has become the central theme of all New Brunswickers in 2020.
As we move deeper into September, and plan for the start of Red Wings Hockey in October, we want to assure you that all along, safety has and will remain our number one concern and priority. The Fredericton Red Wings put forth a motion recently at the MHL Board of Governors meeting to wait 28 days longer to start, for the safety and concern of all. The goal of the motion was to buy 28 days of safety, to see such things as school, QMJHL Hockey, University, back to the office, etc. and how it impacts our society. As this motion has been passed it will result in a 44-game schedule, 4 less home games, and 4 less road games.
As of today due to COVID-19 restrictions we will only be allowed to have 517 masked individuals in the Grant Harvey Center for Red Wings home games. We understand that this number is not as large as many had hoped. This is not to say that in the future that this number couldn’t increase, but for right now this is the number that The City of Fredericton is comfortable with. With this being said, for the upcoming season there will be no ticket booth on game day out of respect of following the guidelines given to the Red Wings by the city, however tickets will be available to be purchased in the office up to three-hours prior to game time. We ask our fans now more than ever to please purchase a season ticket as this will be your only guarantee to have a seat in the rink during games. All Red Wings game tickets now must be pre-purchased, whether that be your season ticket or a game ticket. Beginning next week, season tickets can be purchased in person at the Grant Harvey Center or over the phone.
All along, society in our Country has listened and depended on experts and trusted in the plan they put forth. Canada, and New Brunswick have led the way, worldwide, and for that, we owe a lot to Medical and Public Safety experts, and to all the citizens who have followed the rules (YOU) .
I would like to thank everyone for their continued support, as well as past support, a very special thank you to our sponsors, those businesses who have stuck with us through this time when it may not be the easiest choice as they work to keep their own business healthy. Our next step is to begin the process of preparing to play, with our players safety in mind, so please be patient with us, stay safe and see you at the arena for our first exhibition game soon.
Yours in hockey,
President/Governor Fredericton Red Wings Jr A Hockey Club, MHL
